The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has decided to provide oxygen concentrators free-of-cost to the homes of Covid-19 patients. Oxygen concentrators will be installed on a temporary basis till the patient recovers.
Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Patil said the PCMC has received as many as 70 oxygen concentrators from different companies under Corporate Social Responsibility funds. “We are expecting more oxygen concentrators from industrial units in future. We have decided to provide these oxygen concentrator to patients who need them at home,” Patil said.
Executive engineer Satish Ingle has been appointed as the coordinating officer. “If citizens call our helpline number 7768005888, we will provide oxygen concentrators right to their doorsteps. Our team will install the oxygen concentrators and provide information about how to operate them,” Patil said.

Ingle said, “A four-member team has been appointed to ensure that the oxygen concentrator reaches the patient who needs it. Oxygen concentrators are meant for Covid-19 patients who have been discharged and who need oxygen support at home. They are also for those who are in home isolation and suddenly report breathing issues. We have also been provided a vehicle for reaching the doorstep of the patients. Our team will install the concentrators at the homes of the patient.”
Dr Rajendra Wable, dean of YCM hospital, said, “These oxygen concentrators are like oxygen beds in hospitals. They provide five litres oxygen per minute although the hospital oxygen beds provide 15 litre per minute oxygen. The oxygen concentrators will help the patient breathe easy and not let his or her oxygen level drop. Mostly they are needed by patients recovering post-Covid…Now, since the PCMC has provided a helpline, alert families should immediately requisition oxygen concentrators from the PCMC.”
The PCMC commissioner has also set up a three-member committee to identify children who have lost their parents due to Covid-19. Additional Municipal Commissioner Ulhas Jagtap will head the committee, which will include senior civic officers like Anna Bodade and Ajay Charthankar. The committee has been asked to find out such children and provide information to the Task Force that has been set up under the District Collectorate. The Municipal Commissioner is also part of the 10-member Task Force.
