A Pennsylvania man was killed Friday when he attempted to light a cigarette while actively using an oxygen generating machine, police say.

The name and age of the victim was not released.

North Coventry Township police say they were dispatched Friday to Mt. Zion Avenue after receiving a call about a man who was “injured by fire from a medical oxygen generator.”

They say they were told that the man was actively using a nasal cannula for oxygen when he tried to light a cigarette. They say that sparked a flame that burned the man.

EMS was on the scene and performing CPR when police arrived, and he was reportedly transported to Pottstown Hospital Tower Health.

Police say they were notified by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office that the main later succumbed to his injuries.
