Simi Mol attends Plus Two equivalent examination

Kaduthuruthy: Fighting against all the odds, a 50-year-old homemaker on Sunday attended the Plus Two equivalent examination with an oxygen cylinder and oxygen concentrator here. Vaikaprayar native PP Simi Mol appeared for the Plus Two Humanities examination at St Michael's School in Kaduthuruthy. She was also accompanied by her mother Sarojini and sister Sini Mol.

The school authority allowed her to sit alone in the staff room to write the examination. A total of 157 candidates appeared for the Plus Two equivalent examination at St Michael's school. Simi had attended the classes organised by Literacy Mission from a centre in Vaikom.

Simi’s husband Jyothiraj, who was a retired Indian Air Force staff, died three years ago. Their only daughter Amritha is pursuing BDS in Mangaluru. Simi was affected by lung-related ailments following the death of her husband. Soon, she was diagnosed with honeycomb disease, caused when fibrosis and cystic spaces emerged in the lungs. When breathing became too strenuous, Simi had to resort to the aid of an oxygen cylinder and an oxygen concentrator. With this, Simi had to quit her job in an Anganwadi.
