HeNet in the Netherlands is warning of scammers offering its IoT and Helium gateways for sale.

“Our products are currently not for sale. However a number of fraudulent websites are trying to scam our customers. We currently are aware of the following fraudulent (scam) websites,” said the company.

HeNet is a subsidiary of Velorum, a company from the Netherlands that specializes in security solutions with the main focus on cryptography. It developed the LongAP One gateway for the Helium peer to peer network. The gateway based on an AMD processor, Intel Wifi chips and 30GByte MLC SSD storage as well as the SX1301/SX1308 LoRa concentrator from Semtech.

The production of the gateways was delayed by the global chip shortages, with expected delivery of the latest version, LongAP Light, in the first half of 2022.

The scam websites include longapone.com/, longapminer.com/, henetminer.com/, rsale.store/ and miner-helium.com.

“There may be more websites we are not aware of. Do not buy at these websites. Please make sure to only buy via longap.com or any future trusted distributors,” it said. This includes SkyLab, which is supplying its LongAP gateway for a network onboard a ferry on the North Sea for the Stena Line.

“We are actively trying to take down any fraudulent websites,” said the company.
