SURYA.CO.ID, SURABAYA - The scarcity of oxygen as a treatment for Covid-19 sufferers who are undergoing self-isolation has made the Manarul Ilmi Foundation (YMI) of the 10 November Institute of Technology (ITS) donate an Oxygen Concentrator to be used for campus academics.YMI's publicist, Arief Wisnu, said that this pandemic, many academics, staff and students had to self-isolate due to limited facilities in hospitals. This condition is exacerbated by the depletion of drug stocks at the ITS Medical Center and also the difficulty of finding oxygen cylinders."There are six oxygen concentrators and 100 packages of medicines and vitamins that we provide to help ITS community members who are exposed to Covid-19," said Wisnu when donating oxygen and medicines to ITS Vice Chancellor IV and the ITS Covid Task Force, Saturday ( 17/7/2021).Wisnu said the reason for donating a number of oxygen concentrators to the ITS community was because Indonesia was currently experiencing a shortage of medical oxygen. In fact, continued Wisnu, although the need for medical oxygen has been taken from industrial needs, it still has not met the demand for medical oxygen which is very high."In the field, oxygen supply for the community is still limited. People who want to get refills for their oxygen cylinders must be willing to queue for hours. Even the cylinders are currently limited, some are expensive," he said.Wisnu explained that the oxygen concentrator functions to take oxygen from the air whose concentration is 21 percent to 90 percent. In short, this device can replace the function of the tube without the patient having to refill it."This tool is a one-on-one personnel. But we heard that the government will bring in thousands of these tools from abroad. Hopefully it can meet domestic medical oxygen needs," he said.Deputy Chancellor IV for Research, Innovation, Cooperation and Alumni, ITS Bambang Pramujati thanked YMI ITS for donating oxygen concentrators, medicines and vitamins to help handle civitas exposed to COVID-19."During this pandemic, we really need oxygen, which is indeed scarce. Our oxygen concentrator receives assistance from YMI which will later be managed by the ITS COVID-19 Task Force," he said.Later, ITS will also try to develop an oxygen concentrator.Because the internal needs of ITS are quite a lot.Meanwhile, the Head of the ITS Covid-19 Task Force, Aji Pamungkas, stated that his party already had a queue list for anyone who could use the oxygen first. He revealed, in addition to lecturers and staff, his party also handled the families of ITS lecturers and students and students who were infected with Covid-19."Previously, I had looked for several alternatives to lecturers, teaching staff who were previously exposed to Covid-19 and had oxygen cylinders to be able to lend them. At ITS, they do exist, the data has been recapitulated and there are indeed some who really need it. We have received loans," he said.
