Companion 5™ and NewLife® Intensity 10 Stationary Concentrators to be Available this Summer

BALL GROUND, Ga., April 29, 2022--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Global oxygen equipment manufacturer CAIRE Inc. will be expanding its portfolio of solutions in Latin America this summer. The Companion 5™ and NewLife® Intensity 10 stationary oxygen concentrators are expected to launch in July, following an anticipated approval by the Brazilian Health Regularity Agency (Anvisa).

"During the past two years, the COVID-19 pandemic oxygen shortages throughout South America have underscored the need to expand CAIRE’s portfolio of equipment available to providers to serve patients prescribed oxygen as they are discharged from the hospital," said Barry Hassett, Vice President of Global of Marketing.

Currently CAIRE products available in Brazil include the award-winning FreeStyle® Comfort® portable oxygen concentrator, the clinically-proven Eclipse 5® transportable oxygen concentrator, and liquid oxygen (LOX) systems including the Stroller® portable and Liberator® reservoir.

The FreeStyle Comfort and Eclipse 5 can produce unlimited oxygen — drawing in ambient air, filtering it, and delivering up to 95 percent pure oxygen to the user via nasal cannula. Both medical devices are designed for oxygen users during activity and travel, and are powered by battery or electrical power. Both come equipped with CAIRE’s proprietary, smart O2 delivery technologies, including autoSAT® that ensures the user receives the oxygen they need with every breath.

LOX systems require regular refills from a gas provider, but are an excellent solution for oxygen users who require high flow prescriptions. Users stay mobile with a lightweight portable, while reservoirs support their needs for at-home use.

The addition of the two stationary oxygen concentrators (SOCs) is a major step in providing distributors with equipment for their patients’ at-home oxygen needs using the full breadth of CAIRE’s industry-leading portfolio. SOCs offer the oxygen user the ability to receive continuous flow oxygen as they move about their home, engaging in daily living activities.

The Companion 5 is a 5 liters per minute (LPM) concentrator offering a small footprint and energy efficiency for the user. Global medical equipment providers frequently supply this concentrator to the respiratory patient along with the FreeStyle Comfort as a complete non-delivery solution for both active and at home oxygen needs.

The rugged, time-proven NewLife Intensity 10 has been a long-time trusted, go-to device, supporting specialty applications in more than 100 countries. It offers up to 10 LPM and an output of 20 PSI. It is often paired with CAIRE’s SureFlow™ oxygen system, allowing healthcare workers to deliver oxygen up to five patients simultaneously in clinical settings.

For the quarter, Global Blood Therapeutics' sales hit nearly $55.2 million, representing quite an encouraging improvement over the year-ago quarter's $39 million. Although the revenue figure didn't quite reach the $56.1 million analysts were collectively estimating, Global Blood Therapeutics beat on the bottom line. Global Blood Therapeutics also launched the drug for patients aged 4 to 11.

A new study conducted by researchers at Harvard Medical School among others has found that the omicron variant of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 is just as severe as earlier variants, and not more transmissible but no less severe as previously thought.

A deed recently filed in Miami-Dade County records has revealed how much money Nicklaus Children’s Health System obtained for selling the shuttered Miami Medical Center campus. The Miami-based nonprofit announced on April 26 that it sold Miami Medical Center to Dallas-based Steward Health Care, but didn’t disclose the price.

Veronica thought she did everything right by sticking to all of the COVID-19 lockdown rules in the Chinese city of Shanghai. After the entire city was shut down on April 1, her family of four scrupulously followed government orders to stay at home, stepping out the front door only for mandatory PCR testing. When curbs were relaxed slightly in mid-April, letting residents walk about within their compounds, Veronica and her neighbours all wore masks.

Researchers trying to learn what killed the first person to receive a heart transplant from a pig have discovered the organ harbored an animal virus but cannot yet say if it played any role in the man’s death. A Maryland man, 57-year-old David Bennett Sr., died in March, two months after the groundbreaking experimental transplant. University of Maryland doctors said Thursday they found an unwelcome surprise — viral DNA inside the pig heart.

As summer draws nearer, people across the country have already booked vacations, planned large events, and otherwise filled their schedule in ways that they might not have been able to over the past two years. But as ready as we are for the pandemic to be over, COVID has other plans. Despite infections declining steadily for months, numbers are back on the rise. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), cases in the country have increased by more than 25 percent in just

The average number of daily new Covid infections in Los Angeles County has jumped by about 300% during the past month and roughly 25% in the past week alone. Today, they topped 3,000 for the first time since mid-February. One month ago, the number of daily cases in L.A. was 1,060. But the increase has […]

The findings, which estimated Omicron's severity after accounting for the impact of vaccines, should reinforce the importance of inoculations and booster shots, experts said. Vaccines helped keep hospitalizations and deaths relatively low during the Omicron surge compared with previous variants. The authors, from Massachusetts General Hospital, Minerva University and Harvard Medical School, declined to comment until peer review is completed.

The World Health Organization has announced today that nearly 15 million people worldwide have now died of COVID-19 or because of its effect on health services and society. According to WHO, around 84%of the excess deaths were concentrated in South-East Asia and the Americas; while 68% were concentrated primarily in just 10 countries of the world. The agency said that excess mortality is calculated as the difference between the number of deaths that have occurred and the number that would be expected in the absence of the pandemic based on earlier data.

The large study, published in Research Square, is yet to be peer-reviewed
